Avon Young Club@UMK

The establishment of the Avon Centre of Excellence will usher in a new paradigm that will boost teaching and learning excellence in entrepreneurship education at UMK. Speaking at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing held at SEGi University in Kota Damansara on 29th of April 2016, Vice Chancellor of UMK, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mortaza Mohamed, acknowledged the industrial collaboration between Avon, UMK and SEGi University that leads to the establishment of the Centre of Excellence (CoE).69bc9c3e85c501b0a6208cc7a55abbf9_xl

The CoE, which will be set up at both educational institutions aims to train and impart industrial expertise to students and graduates. UMK sees the collaboration as a high-impact project capable of empowering entrepreneurial culture among students and staff at the university.

Also in attendance at the signing ceremony were Director General of Higher Education, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Asma Ismail, UMK Board of Directors member, Dato’ Hj. Hanafi Mamat Avon Malaysia President, Mr. Romulus Sirbu, SEGi University Group President, Dato’ Mohamed Azahari Mohamed Kamil and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Entrepreneurship and Public Private Research Network (PPRN) Unit Chief, Datin Syahira Hamidon.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mortaza is confident the collaboration will also inspire creativity and invention capable of spurring innovation across scientific and technical disciplines in the public and private sector. Besides that, it further strengthens the strategic partnership between UMK and the industry and allows feedback and ideas pertaining to the University development to be garnered in an effort to ensure it continuously fulfills the industrial needs. In line with the objective of the collaboration to foster collegiality and togetherness between the higher education institutions and industry, he also hoped the golden opportunity will act as a platform for more entrepreneurship and research activities to be carried out to encourage experience sharing.dsc_0237

Meanwhile, Mr. Romulus Sirbu spoke at the event that Avon will offer short term beauty and image consulting courses at SEGi University as a start. Besides that, Avon will also provide industrial training opportunities to SEGi University and UMK students to allow them to gain practical experience and skills to enhance their competence and value in the job market. Emphasis on entrepreneurial skills involving sales, retail, marketing management, supply chain management and other relevant field will be given, he stated.

Furthermore, through this collaboration both UMK and SEGi will have a great opportunity to equip their students with the necessary knowledge and skills required to become not only competent workers but also business owners capable of providing ample work opportunities to the community.

dsc_0254-1In conjunction with the collaboration, Avon also launched Avon Young Club at SEGI University and UMK as a means to provide students with an opportunity to become entrepreneurs who support and promote inner and outer beauty at their campus. During the event, Mr. Romulus Sirbu was appointed as an Adjunct Lecturer and Board of Directors member of SEGi University’s Faculty of Business, Accountancy and Management.
